Disposal of sludge from refineries and industrial companies is a difficult problem in the overall waste treatment management program. Sludge is one of the biggest environmental problems confronting the world.
The petroleum sludge is attributed to two major factors controlling its formation. The first factor is the inorganic residue (sediments, sands, scales and dust) and the second is the precipitation of paraffinic wax. Wax precipitates are sparingly soluble in crude oil. The reason behind this precipitation is temperature changes. In addition to the above reasons, the oxidation of heavy organic material in crude oil due to climate changes and oxidizing fungi. Moreover, the interruption in material balance due to losses of volatile components and the tendency of asphaltene, bitumen, resins and polymeric compounds to precipitate are all causes of sludge formation.
F2020 Fuel Saver is highly effective for sludge treatment that is also used to recover oil to make a high quality fuel with improved combustion characteristics. This sludge is softened, broken into minute particles and gradually dispersed into the fuel.
Current treatment facilities are merely employing distillation process to reduce moisture level and sludge is mixed either with diesel, kerosene or solvents in order to increase burning quality. But this practice is not environmentally acceptable as the sludge, when burned, produces high sulfur level. The smoke emitted is dark and harmful.

Treatment Of Sludge Using F2020 Fuel Saver To Produce Bunker Fuel Oil
Our Fuel Treatment is easier and less expensive than physically disposing, or storing, the sludge residual. The treatment will recover the sludge up to 95% (depending on foreign object contents of the sludge), giving a savings in sludge disposal cost. In addition, the volume of sludge can be transformed into a good quality bunker fuel. These two principal money savings and income generating options are without doubt worth considering by business sensitive sludge producers.
Treatment Procedure For Sludge
- Transfer the sludge from the tanker to the Process tank
- Heat – up the process tank 80 up to 90 degrees Celsius (about 2.0 hr.) using oil heater
- Drain the water accumulated in the bottom of the process tank
- Add 4ml to 6ml of F2020 Fuel Saver for every liter of sludge or a ratio of 1:250 / 1:166 (0.4% to 0.6% per volume of sludge) and mix thoroughly for 1 hour using agitator
- Transfer the treated sludge (bunker fuel oil), to the storage tank
- A better quality, higher heating value and low sulfur bunker fuel is now ready for delivery
